Is this normal Pilates?
Unlike a reformer Pilates class, you will spend little to no time resting on your back while taking a Lagree Megaformer class. As a result, the Megaformer is designed much differently than a traditional reformer. While there are influences, the workout method and results are like night and day. The Megaformer and class structure provide an intensity and cardiovascular elements that cannot be achieved with traditional Pilates. With the Lagree Method at KOMO, you get the intensity of weight training/circuit training plus the therapeutic benefits of Pilates all in one.
The Megaformer is 44” longer than a traditional Pilates reformer, and includes 2 large platforms on both ends. There are also two separate sets of cables that connect to the carriage allowing exercises not possible on a reformer to be performed. And, it allows you to move seamlessly from one exercise to the next, keeping the heart rate up and muscles effectively working throughout the entire class.
That machine looks like a torture device. What can I expect?
Don’t let the intensity intimidate you. At KOMO, all are welcome. We were all beginners once, and we can accommodate all fitness levels. Every exercise can be modified to reduce or increase intensity so we meet everyone in the room where they are and give them what they need.
If you are a beginner that is just getting back into a fitness routine, we offer private sessions and a beginner class that focuses on essential Lagree moves.
Please notify your instructor of any physical limitations or injuries. If you are expecting, have chronic back pain, painful joints, or a serious medical condition, please consult with your physician before starting this, or any exercise program. If cleared with your doctor, it is recommended to take a private session first so that we can assess your fitness level and best prepare you for group classes. If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know and we will take care of you.
I'm pregnant. Can I still take a class?
Congratulations! We love our mamas and have had many who have worked out with us throughout various stages of their pregnancies. For new clients who are pregnant and new to the workout, we do not advise starting out with group classes, and instead recommend a private session and/or our KOMO Foundations class. However, clients who have been regularly attending classes may continue working out with us as long as you have received approval from your doctor. Please contact us if you have any questions.
What time should I arrive?
Please allow enough time to park so that you can be at the studio a minimum of 10 minutes before class to meet with your instructor if it is your first visit. Mahalo for understanding that for your safety, first-timers that arrive late will not be permitted to attend class. Doors may be locked once class starts for added security.
The class I want to attend is full. Do you have a waitlist?
Due to the limited capacity in our class sessions, we offer and encourage you to join available waitlist classes. Spots tend to open up as you get closer to the class date and our 12 hour class cancellation window. CLICK HERE and scroll to STUDIO POLICIES > USING WAITLIST for details.
If I'm late, will you give away my spot?
We can relate to being on Hawaiian time, too! Please check traffic apps like Waze or Google Maps to plan ahead and give yourself enough time to find a parking spot and get to the studio a few minutes early. If you do not arrive within 10 minutes of the scheduled class time, your space may be given to someone who shows up on standby. If this is your first visit, mahalo for understanding that for your safety, and the safety of the other members in class, we cannot allow first-timer late arrivals once class begins.
How long is class?
Most classes range from 40-45 minutes long. To maximize your workout time and due to the special nature of the method, it does not include a traditional warm-up or cool-down that is seen in most group fitness classes. Also, breaks will not be cued so please take them when and if needed. Feel free to stretch prior to class and be sure to include recovery practices between classes. If you have questions on any of this, please ask and we’re happy to help!
Do you have lockers or storage?
We have shelves in the lobby area for you to store your belongings during class.
What should I wear?
Wear comfortable, form-fitting sportswear without metal or plastic trim, which can be damaging to equipment. Baggy clothing is not recommended. If you have long hair, bring something to tie it back. Please remove jewelry prior to class to prevent it from being caught in the machine and/or causing damage to it. To be considerate of fellow clients with allergies/sensitivities, please do not wear strong scents.
Are grip socks required?
For safety and hygiene, grip socks must be worn during class. You can find them for purchase online and at many retailers that sell fitness apparel. If you need a pair, please be sure to add a credit card to your account. Grip socks are available to rent ($2) or purchase ($20) at the studio. All rates quoted do not include Hawaii State GET which will be calculated upon checkout.
What are your policies for membership cancellations, membership holds, class reservation cancellations and switching classes?
Due to the very limited capacity of our sessions and to ensure all clients have a fair opportunity to attend open spots, we have a cancellation window of twelve (12) hours prior to the booked class time. Cancellations made after are considered late and will incur a $15 fee.
For full details on booking cancellations, membership cancellations/holds, and class switches, CLICK HERE and scroll to STUDIO POLICIES for details.
Where do I park?
DON’T FORGET TO BRING COINS! A metered coin-only parking lot is located behind our building. Enter off Aulike St. or Maluniu Ave. It provides the most direct access to the stairway that leads to the studio and is an affordable $0.60 for 48 mins or $0.75 for one hour.
